Baptism is a beautiful picture of how Christians publicly identify with Christ as our Lord and Savior.
In Acts 8:26–39, we read about the Ethiopian eunuch, a high-ranking official in the court of Candace, queen of Ethiopia who immediately after hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ explained to him by Philip, understood what Christ had done for him, believed in Him as his Lord and Savior, and desired to be align himself with other Christ followers as Philip to baptize him right then and there on the side of the road. In the same way, baptism remains a step of obedience for every believer. All of heaven rejoices when we choose to follow God’s command to make a public confession of faith through baptism. This past Sunday, we had the joy of baptizing one of our own sisters in the faith—Annakai. As she went into the waters of baptism, we were reminded of our own baptism and what it means to live as followers of Christ. Just as our sermon this week focused on Jesus the Messiah with the question: “What Does He Expect of Us?” The answer is that we are to daily die to ourself, take up our cross, and follow Him. Listen to this week’s sermon to be encouraged and reminded of what it truly means to live as a disciple of Jesus. And Congratulations to Annakai for making this bold and public proclamation of being a follow of Christ. Reach out to us at Redemption Valley Church if you want to learn more about what it means to publicly profess your faith through baptism.
